The following 8 questions are designed to give you a benchmark of where you currently are in your ability to find & negotiate your dream sponsorships — so that you can get more lucrative deals (repeatedly).

After you’ve finished the Snapshot, you’ll receive a personalized report via email with your results + reflections.

It will take about 7-10 minutes to complete. The more you put in, the more you’ll get out!

Pitch

My ability to send a pitch to a brand to propose a collaboration OR confidently handle a deal when a brand has reached out to me. *


Score 0-2 I send very basic, generic pitches that are focused on ME & my platforms rather than the brand and their objectives. I don’t do any research and typically send my pitches to press@brand.com or slide in their DMs on social media (+ rarely follow up). If brands reach out to me, I’m a deer in headlights and stumble over my words (if I respond at all).
Score 3-5 I somewhat customize my pitches and usually provide a single number when asked my rate. I do basic research and occasionally follow up but it’s such a grind and I always get ghosted so…naw.
Score 6-8 I provide customized pitches for each brand with multiple packages even if they don’t ask for it. I stalk brands’ press releases, job boards, and Instagram campaigns, + follow up repeatedly even if they’re not responding (wow, I AM a stalker) BUT it’s effective + it increases my success rate of winning deals.

Negotiate

My ability to negotiate advantageous deal points with a brand or agency so I don’t leave money on the table. *


Score 0-2 I have very little confidence in the rates I’m providing to brands or agencies ($10 to post about their potato chips seems fair, right?). I have minimal knowledge of what language and levers to use so that I can negotiate more favorable terms.
Score 3-5 I’m somewhat confident in my negotiation abilities and occasionally land sponsorships. When a brand says their budget is 50% of my rate, I usually take it rather than counteroffering (even though I’m swearing + dying inside).
Score 6-8 I have high confidence that the rates I’m sending brands adequately capture the work involved, are in alignment with the brands’ budgets, fulfill their campaign objectives, and maximize the chances of closing the deals. I refrain from yelling “SHOW ME THE MONEY” Jerry Maguire-style and regularly counteroffer multiple times throughout negotiations.

Contract

My ability to create or review contracts (or delegate to pros) so every negotiation deal point is accurately represented. *


Score 0-2 I sign contracts without fully reading or comprehending the terms + key clauses (but if I’m honest, I ask my pet/small child to sign since they probably understand more than I do). If a contractual disagreement arose, I wouldn’t have a clue how to resolve the issues.
Score 3-5 I generally understand the contracts I sign but the deals I do aren’t big enough to justify hiring a lawyer (I miiiiiiiiiiight have accidentally signed away my first born child one time). I’m probably agreeing to clauses I shouldn’t but…YOLO!
Score 6-8 I fully comprehend (or outsource to a lawyer) every single contract I sign. I politely bow out if brands won’t agree to remove or modify unfavorable clauses. I slap on a smile for brands’ legal teams and use their contract templates (with strategic suggestions to protect myself) since it makes everyone’s lives easier.

Concept

My ability to review creative briefs and submit concepts to the brand or agency (even if they haven’t asked me!) so everyone is on the same page. *


Score 0-2 I rarely submit ideas about how I’ll bring partnerships to life because…who has time for that? If brands don’t send a brief with talking points, I assume they’ve granted me 100% creative freedom. Will they like what I create? Wellllllll, kind of a roll of the dice.
Score 3-5 I occasionally send brands my concepts, usually when they require it in the contract or ask directly. If brands push back or provide edits to the concept, I often push back since their feedback is usually stupid and will make the content worse.
Score 6-8 I submit detailed concepts or storyboards proactively, even if the brands/agencies don’t ask for it. I’m extremely open to their feedback because I’d rather them flag that I’m mispronoucing the product name now rather than after an entire day of production where I said it 426 times (kill me). I provide constructive suggestions on the creative brief/messaging to ensure the content will be executed in alignment with the goals of the partnership.

Score 0-2 I have a very hard time sticking to brands’ timelines and regularly turn deliverables in late (I was watching a TikTok livestream of someone sleeping, get off my back). I often forget to follow the creative brief and don’t pay too close attention to brands’ talking points since they make the content feel too much like an “ad.”
Score 3-5 I usually hit deadlines but if something comes up in my personal life (e.g. grand opening of fancy local coffee shop with 2-for-1 cold brew), I tell brands they’ll have to wait a bit longer for the deliverables. I try to follow brands’ key messages but if I miss 1 or 2 it’s not a huge deal.

My ability to remain objective when brands or agencies request revisions, edits, or reshoots so our relationship is reinforced. *


Score 0-2 I often get mad or salty when brands send feedback on content that I think is clearly dope. I can’t help but reply snarkily and have no problem letting brands know I’m annoyed. I’ve even straight up refused to make additional changes in the past unless they coughed up more cash.
Score 3-5 I’ll entertain brands’ feedback and usually make the changes but if they catch me on a bad day, I’ll start dragging my feet. It’s not that I’m trying to be difficult, it’s just that they’re not paying me enough to put up with all this.

My ability to publish work accurately & on time (without micromanagement by the brand) + follow up with initial data/wins so my contact looks like a hero. *


Score 0-2 I kinda suck at posting things on time (“Oh, was that supposed to be today?!”) If brands ping me with last-minute changes, I intentionally ghost them and post anyway to show them who’s boss.
Score 3-5 I generally publish things on time but OOPS I accidentally posted V4 instead of V5 because TBH there were just too many revisions to keep track of. Not a big deal, though. I’ll fix it when I get back from the gym+grocery store in 6 hours.
Score 6-8 I’m always “on it” and brands never hound me for updates because they trust my attention to detail & timeliness implicitly. I publish everything blind-folded because my process is so dialed in and fool-proof that I haven’t made a mistake in years. I don’t blink when brands ask me to update a caption with the new hashtag they accidentally forgot. My ability to analyze the overall success of the partnership, tie up all loose ends, and pitch the brand on the next collaboration. *


Score 0-2 I take 5-7 days to send brands screenshots of my insights or analytics after campaigns because it’s just not a super high priority. If they ask for an invoice or tax paperwork, I’ll procrastinate as long as humanly possible until I realize that I actually need the money to, ya know, LIVE. After brands pay me for partnerships, I literally never speak to them again.
Score 3-5 I’m fairly prompt sending all the payment info + analytics to brands but if they ask me to fill out an 11 page vendor form I’ll piss and moan and passive aggressively tell them that “the last person didn’t make me do this???”
